MINDROOM: THE WELL-BEING THAT COMES FROM THE MIND

MindRoom: The well-being that comes from the mind
The “MindRoom” is a metaphor for the space inside the skull that contains the marvelous structure called the brain, the body organ that coordinates most psychophysiological activities.
“MindRoom” is also a methodology, based on training the mind and body with non-clinical biofeedback and neurofeedback technologies. Through this training, one learns to deflect negative/intrusive thoughts and concerns, to develop a greater presence, attention, concentration and focus and to increase awareness and understanding of how thoughts affect physiology and how, in turn, physiology can also influence thoughts. The exercises conducted in the MindRoom exert a positive influence on mental activity, making a mind-body connection that allows ones “personal system” to respond harmoniously to the various situations in which one interacts: work, family, sport, school, and social contexts.

Biofeedback is a process that enables an individual to learn how to change physiological activity for the purposes of improving health and performance.
Precise instruments measure physiological activity such as brainwaves, heart function, breathing, muscle activity, and skin temperature. These instruments rapidly and accurately “feed back” information to the user. The presentation of this information — often in  conjunction with changes in thinking, emotions, and behavior — supports desired physiological changes. Over time, these changes can endure without continued use of an instrument.

Neurofeedback (EEG Biofeedback) is a technology that directly  measures brainwave activity and provides feedback on how well one can exercise control over a number of cognitive skills that heavily influence the quality of performance.
Neurofeedback training can enhance visualization, attention, and specific cognitive skills. This training is not limited to  athletes, but holds equal value and power for business executives and other professionals. Neurofeedback can be considered an exercise of  “fitness for the mind”.

The Technology Behind MindRoom

MindRoom is equipped with a combination of specialized and custom designed instrumentation, which monitor the principal  psychophysiological parameters that impact performance (level of stress, heart rate, respiratory rate, body temperature, muscle tension, electrical activity of the brain, etc...). These signals are detected in a totally non-invasive manner. They are combined with high quality, multimedia feedback needed to develop the advanced mental skills for  which elite athletes and other high functioning individuals are so well known.

The training is closely controlled by a trainer/coach in a separate room, who monitors the signals, controls the on-screen feedback and offers verbal guidance.

This often includes progressive mental exercises to produce an assessment of mental and emotional characteristics. The training ultimately leads towards the improvement of cognitive and attention-related capabilities. The goal is to learn to quickly interpret what is happening within, and to train and strengthen the  capacity to self-manage stress and specific psychophysiological responses. This leads to increases both in one’s general well-being and the ability to control and self-regulate critical mental, emotional and physiological  responses to external events. Consequently, training with MindRoom achieves measurable and remarkable improvements in peak performance and ultimately, in everyday life.

For Whom?
MindRoom can be used by anyone who wishes to improve their self-regulatory skills by enhancing and maintaining an optimal level of wellness. After an initial assessment of individual characteristics, the user follows a path of “prevention and promotion of well-being” that facilitates the protection of personal health and achieve a high level of professional performance.

The MindRoom as “Media”
MindRoom is a tool to foster the welfare of individuals and also that of families, organizations and institutions. It promotes the concepts of “ecology of mind” and “social ecology” towards the goal of achieving a sustainable bio-psycho-social model of behavior.
